I've been playing some ring games on stars lately and have had some
situations come up which I have questions about. Maybe some more
experienced NL players out there can help. I'm UTG and get dealt AA I
make it 8 dollars to go with blinds at 1-2. First of all is this a big
enough raise? Whenever I raise I always make the raise 4 times the
size of the BB regardless of what I have. If I'm gonna raise I'm going
to make the raises the same whether I have AA or a bluff just to not
give my hand away(Unless of course I don't have enough then I simply
move all-in). The reason I ask this is because I was called in 5
places. Flop comes QJ3 two diamonds. Player in sb checks I bet, player
on the button calls. Then sb moves all-in with a c-raise. I felt my
bullets were a piece of crap in this situation so I mucked em. Player
on the button calls. SB shows QJ for two pair. Button tells me he had
KTd for s straight-flush draw. I think my problem with this hand was
that I didn't make a big enough raise preflop to get this garbage out
what do you guys think?
Some other things I have been thinking about out are moving all-in
before the flop. I do not like to this unless it is absolutely
necessary, like for example there is a decent raise UTG 5 people call
it and I'm on the button with AA, then I will move all-in. Otherwise I
just want to play out a hand, but it's hard dealing with these all-in
players. Any comments on how to handle them?
Another thing I have been trying to work on is trying to tell whether
a player is bluffing you on the river. Online where you can't get any
physical tells it's tough. Let's say you've been betting top pair,
with top kicker and there are two diamonds on board and you are 1st to
act. On the river the third diamond comes and you check. Your opponent
makes a decent sized bet and now you're in a quandary. He may have the
flush or he may be bluffing, in fact I will try this bluff myself if I
think it will make the opponent fold. If for example I was drawing to
a straight with two flush cards on board and miss but the river card
makes three of a suit on board. Then there's always the option of
betting into a possible completed hand, then if you get raised muck,
but to waste money like this just seems stupid to me, yet I see a lot
of players using this strategy any comments on this?
