View Full Version : Flushes

A friend of mine who has played on Party Poker for a while claims their
random number generator is flawed and cites the high frequency of flushes as
proof. I say the reason why there are so many flushes is because the
majority of players on Party Poker will hold on to any two suited cards and
will chase to the river. Who is right? Or are we both wrong?

I'd say you are right.
Unless of course aliens have infiltrated Party poker's random generator. Oh
wait, that was the sci-fi movie I saw last night.

Your the almost right. It's becasue of two reasons
1)you play so many more hands an hour that it seems like more flushes are hit
2) people stay with any two suited cards and chase just like you said.

Their random generator IS flawed and I'll site the number of Quads,
straight flushes and trips to justify it. I've been logging the rate
that Quads come down and it just happens way to often. And yes, people
will hold onto their trips both online and offline, so it's a good
illustration.

Depending on the limit you play, certainly at the lower limits, you will
often get 5 or more people seeing the flop, and considering that about half the
time, you will get a 2 suited flop, making the flush draw much more likely when
you have that many callers. Plus of course, these loose players will always be
getting the odds to chase the flush in limit, and will chase the flush in NL
even when they are not getting the odds. So yes, it seems that flushes are much
more likely at Party, but only at the loose tables. Having said, most tables at
Party are loose anyway, so the conclusion is yes, there are more flushes at
party, though it is unlikely to have anything to do with any flaws in their RNG.
Now I don't know if the Party RNG is faulty or not. I find that most of the
time, it seems to be fine. The big suckouts that I suffered can easily be
explained in term of random distribution (even If I were a 95% favourite at
flop, I am still expected to lose that hand once every 20 times, painful when
you lose, but nothing that much out of the ordinary). Those people that claim
they have logged Party for so many 100K/millions of hands, and found prove
of flaws, please post your evidence here. Otherwise it becomes no more than a
Russ rant; sometimes it can be fun/intereesting to read, most of the time it is
boring, but ultimately pointless.

If the generator is the problem, then the same problem exists at
PokerStars. I think that the second hypothesis, chasing the river, is
probably the correct one, because that has been my experience at PS.

If you hold two suited cards and flop a 4 flush it is almost never
correct to fold before the river.

Limit or NL? You chase a flush calling pot bets in NL, and you bankroll is
going to file for a divorce sooner than you think.

Your random post generator is flawed. I see this post way more often
than I should.
