I've been told a good SNG player will make it to the money about 25-30% of the
time. Sorry but I dont know if thats true or not.
The only way you will know for sure is by keeping records of your own SNG wins &
loses. There will of course be wild swings and you'll win or lose 10+ times in a
row.
Every week you take the cost of playing SNGs ( including all entry fees)
and match it against the money you've won. I would keep separate accountings for
every site and type of game. You may win more at Party Poker than Full Tilt. 6
seat games maybe better for you than 10 seat games . 7 Stud may make you twice
the money Holdem does.
After about 6 months you'll have a good idea where you stand and how profitable
the various SNGs are for you to play.
Keep winning.

If they are paying 1st to 3rd, you should be in the money at least 30%

Well if that is the case then you'll make the money in first, second & third
spots each one time.

and just try and forget I said anything.
I'd rather read Nicks bad beat messages. God I miss Wilhelm!

A winner in the games will be in the money over 30% of the time. A big winner
will have more than that with more firsts

"I've been told a good SNG player will make it to the money about
25-30% of the time. Sorry but I dont know if thats true or not."
A good SNG player has a return on investment of 25-30%, meaning that on
average he wins 25-30% of a buy-in per tournament. The best players
are in the money around 40% of the time. It is possible to be in the
money more than 40%, but that probably means that you are playing too
passively in 3-4 handed situation, and as a result will squeak in to
third a lot but win less money overall.

i play 9 handed sngs on stars - 10's, 20's, & 30's - last i checked my
cash rate was about 48% with a slight skew for first and thirds (play to
win). adjust down a bit for party, but that's the ballpark.

Do you have anything to back up this statement?

14-12-13 is a reasonable result in a ten-handed SNG. I don't
think you can do much better than a profit of about .25 buyins per
tournament. Anybody who quotes you numbers appreciably higher than
that is either lying or has a very small sample size.
