Bad beat rants again.  Actually, less of a rant, and more of hightlighting fish
play.  Also, its a chance for those knowitalls to claim that I am a donkey for
betting with the best hand.

I just love those fish, but lately, they just seem to be hitting everything
against me.

Fortunately these things work out in the end. Just keep reeling them in.

Situation 1:  Maybe you're "Everyone except me is a fish" attitude blinded you
on the river and allowed you to make a bad call.

Situation 2:  Well at least you didn't bet on the river.  But I'd say you didn't
bet because you had no clue where you were in this hand.  After the guy calls
your turn bet I'm sure you were already thinking he's got you beat and hoping he
checked the river so you didn't have to call off more money.

What I find interesting is that earlier this year in May you posted that you
were a novice.  Now your posts sound like you think you're way up above the
average poker player and everyone that beats you is a fish.  I think you should
really think about why you continue to post these bad beats.  I don't think it's
to try and learn anything, you just wanna say "Look how unlucky I am...I'm so
good but keep getting sucked out one."

Nobody cares....and even when Gary Carson called you a girl, you still took it
as praise.  From what I read in your posts you're not a very good player and
have a long ways to go.  I'd say right now you would actually have to improve to
even be considered a donkey...

After a while one should know the fish win their share...winning some is
what keeps em chasing. What irritates me is the pros and book readers
who call em idiots.
Learn how to lose....give the devil his due.

I knew there had to be at least...:-)  I am right again!

Go do your sums, and then tell me it is -EV to call that bet at river.  Yes,
calling a raise preflop with K3, and a 3/4 pot bet at flop with bottm pair is
such masterful play.

lol...again, I think calling a raise preflop with A7 off in EP is such good
play.  Also check-calling big bets (pot size) with just the ace on the board
passively is just fantastic.  :-)  Added to the fact that he didnt want to be
paid after hitting his 3 outs on river makes him such a master...:-)

No, not everyone, just idiots like you who call with trash out of position, and
yet keep calling big bets when beat.  Combined with not making the most of their
luck when they hit their limited outs.

I think you

Yes, it is a rant pure and simple.  Or can you not read?

then why are you posting this?

Another with a humour by-pass operation.

I would take that seriously if you could actually read.  Nice try, troll.

As someone else stated, I think you're a little blind to what happened in
the first circumstance, so I will tell you my thoughts. It's early in the
tournament, and ATo isn't a strong enough hand to necessarily be playing
at that point. Sure, it's probably the best hand, but if you hit an ace,
are you happy? Maybe, maybe not. A ten high flop, are you happy? Maybe,
maybe not, as someone could have flopped a set on you, or have been
slowplaying an overpair.

My point is that at this stage of the game, you should be folding ATo
there. Sure, if it's suited, see a flop and try to hit a monster. But
too much can go wrong with ATo as you saw. Yes you had the best hand
pre-flop and on the flop, and the guy made bad calls both times, but once
the king hits, you're mucking your hand to a bet. You didn't.

The second situation you were just very unlucky.

It seems I may be the only one, but I kinda like these posts. It's nice to see
that other people experience similar beats of people calling with bottom pair
only to make two pair or trips on that river card...

Thanks for the thought comments.  It was less of a bad beat rant, rather more of
a high-light on fish play.  AT suited at the button, I have both position and
very probably the best hand, if not, I am sure they will reraise to let me
know.  At river, I felt I was beat, but had to call that smallish bet, or i
would be seem as a 'folder', and inviting all sort of plays on me later.  If the
bet was bigger, you'll very likely see me mucking there.  The point I was trying
to make was K3 off calling a raise preflop, out of position?  And calling a 3/4
bet on flop with bottom pair at flop?

> The second situation you were just very unlucky.

And he didnt even bet to make the most of his luck...:)

I think you'll see I was in LP (button, and cutoff) both times that I played
those hands.  Would have mucked AT if in EP, and play AQ a lot slower if not in
position.

Considering the fact that I already said your posts / reply are somewhat
trollish it's kinda lame for you to turn around and say I'm a troll.  You are
the one that subjects yourself to criticism.  If you're going to post a bad beat
story every night then I guess you should be prepared to have your play
analyzed.

I only commented on your play, not the play of your opponents.  I feel their
play was pretty horrible but you seem to not know where your at in hands so you
check / call.  Over time it's a losing play...sorry If you don't know that.  I
don't go around figuring out EV like I'm pretty sure you do so I can't help you
there.

Our games are based off of two totally different concepts.  Mine is a winning
one and yours is obviously not.

Which site do you play the most?  I'll go there and we can play in Sitngo's or
ring games against each other and see how we stack up.....?

I was never out to make an enemy but when you make something personal what do
you expect?

Rob, I have a question for you. First of all, let me just say that I admire your
play and your posts, so dont think this is anything but a question and certainly
not a criticism.

Ok, so I've seen some of your BAHH where you are on a total bluff and the other
guy makes a bad call and wins. I'm guessing from your style that if you were
this guy in case one, when nick checked and seemed to show fear of that King,
that you might have taken a stab at the pot even if you didnt have a King (I
could be totally wrong here, and obviously it would depend on your read,
position, etc). If nick always folds off when someone represents a better hand,
how will he ever win? So my question is, what does it take for you to call? Or
is this simply a matter of looking for a better opportunity to play for it?

I'm just trying to get into the mindset to understand why something is the
correct choice, and not just know the fact that something is the correct
choice...if that makes any sense.

I think that if you're going to check the turn you pretty much have to
call the river. But, I'd have bet the turn. Well, maybe not since I'm
not sure I'd have even seen the flop, much less raised preflop.

And you would be able to read K3 and A7 there...clever boy!  For your
information, bad players are hard to read, I certainly could not figure out
where I might be to some calling a 3BB raise with K3 preflop, then calling a 3/4
pot bet with bottom pair, or with A7 doing the same, then check-calling big
bets.  But I know you can, because you have a 'winning concept'...

Over time it's a losing play...sorry If you don't know that.  I

Overtime, you calling a smallish bet on river to their trash hands after they
called your flop bet, checked the turn, is going to be +EV.  This also allpies
to checking to a showdown after they have called your pot size flop and turn
bets.  You are really such an idiot.

ROTHLMAO...so how many million have you made this week?

You are on! What limit, and where?  Love to see your 'winning concepts'

Me making it personal?  seems our 'winning player' here have rather a thin
skin...all I did was comment on your post of how AA should be played...did I
offer a single word of insult...seems you are the one that's been stalking me
ever since.

Interesting...our wonderful Mr.carson is now saying he is super weak-tight.
What other reason can you give for mucking AT suited at button with one limper
in front of you?  Or even limping with that from the button in this situation?

As for betting the turn, you leave yourself to all sort of traps here....an
over-card has hit, making your TP now 2nd pair, and you would bet it AFTER they
have called your preflop raise and your 3/4 pot flop bet?

Nick,

I can see now that trying to rationalize anything with you and explain my point
of view is completely pointless.  You have no understanding of the things I say
to you.  Your only response when someone disagrees is "you're and idiot."

I simply do not have the time to deal with someone that's got a kids mentality.
But hey, I'm sure we all look forward to your nightly bad beat rants where you
are defensive about it even before anyone responds.

Your next book that tells you how to play should be Poker for Dummy's....I hear
it's got lots of pictures!!!!

Maybe because you write like an idiot.  sorry, I only call it as I see it.

And if you are so busy, why are you stalking me?

Yes, there's tons of fish play online and off. You gotta let it roll off
you and just play your game, you're going to get stupid beats like this
all the time. I just had one myself...

All fold to the button who limps. SB limps, I overbet the pot with QQ
from the BB, and the button limper calls. Flop comes K8x and I bet pot,
he just calls, leaving himself a few hundred back. An 8 on the turn
doesn't scare me, and for some reason I don't think he has a king, so I
push. He calls and flips over J8. Oh well, on to the next hand to try to
fight back. And I ended up tripling up and am still in the tournament.

I agree 100% that his play was terrible. But no need to come to RGP to
post these kind of beats... they happen to me once a tournament pretty
much. I know you're just here to vent, so I don't want to come down on
you too hard, but this is just stupidity on his part and we've all seen it
time and time again.

By the way, if the AT was suited, it's less of a bad play. But I would be
limping there to see a cheap flop. A ten falls, you can bet it, but you
can fold to any more betting when the king falls. Don't worry about
calling a bet there so they won't make a move on you later. If he's
bluffing you with worse than a pair of tens, so be it... not worth the
chips at that point.

Fair enough of a disclaimer...

I definitely do bluff when the opportunity presents itself, but only when
I feel my opponent has to be convinced I have the hand I'm saying I do
when I bet. For example, I couldn't believe the guy called with 88 when I
bet on the river of a 9TJ44 board, and my betting pre-flop and all the way
down represented KQ.

Obviously you can't fold every time you have the second nuts or worse, in
fear of a better hand. But for the first hour or so of a tournament, I'm
playing uber-tight. There's no reason to make big bluffs because there's
no chips in the pot. When the blinds get bigger and the pots get bigger,
that's the time to make your moves. This early, most decent players won't
be making bluffs like this. They'll have at least a pair of kings, or
even a set or a pair of jacks. A pair of tens just won't be good probably
90% of the time.

Later on in a tournament, if you know your opponent, you can make this
call. But what do you really have to gain if you call? If you're right,
you've won a decent pot, but it's still very early, so it doesn't mean
that much. If you're wrong, you've just lost a big pot and are now going
to be fighting to stay alive.

If I'm Nick, I fold to the river bet and know that if he's bluffing, he'll
bluff me when I have a better hand.

If I'm the opponent, obviously I wouldn't be in the pot at any point in
the hand. But if I saw the turn, I would probably play it the same. If I
did not have the king? I would probably not be bluffing at it, because
Nick could be trapping with a set of tens, AK perhaps, or a variety of
other hands. Not worth it.

Well, right off the bat before you even get into what happened and why, here is
what you say:  Also, its a chance for those knowitalls to claim that I am a
donkey for betting with the best hand.

Obviously you're just typin bullshit cuz you're mad.  But you're attitude
suggests that you did everything right and they did everything wrong.  It's just
not the case.  You're as much to blame for your bad beats as the "fish" are.
You've got the attitude of it's them and never me....when you grow up you'll
gain some maturity and maybe a little wisdom to see that.

As far as a challenge...like I asked you already - which site do you like to
play the most?  You post on here when you're gonna be playing and I'll come by
to see what all the crying is about.

Yes, because there is always one idiot...nice to meet you, idiot.

Yes Nick I agree that there always is atleast one idiot.  (This is where you
look in the mirror to find one.)

Well I play the 10/20 NL on Stars on a nightly basis...if you care to jump in
then that would be great.  Personally I'd rather play 10/20 NL on another
site that I'm not a regular on because I don't want people on RGP to figure out
who I am on Stars...  I like to keep that one a secret because it's the real
name I'm known by in online poker.  Other sites don't matter as I've set those
accounts up with various names so I could play "anonymously" when I chose
to....

Sorry, took your advice, looked in a mirror, but saw no idiots.  Maybe if you
were to post your photo here, that'll save us all the trouble of looking...

I see..we are pretending to be a big shot now...ROFLMAO....You see I said 5/10
NL maximum, so you say 10/20...and what's better, you need to keep your ID
hidden...why?  Because if we know why you are, we''ll see you play in 0.1/0.2
micro limit tables?  It really doesn't matter what level you play in, we are
recreational players, and should only play at limits we are comfortable in....Or
are you suggesting you area pro now...lol.  What tablets are you on?

OK, how about a private game on UB, no account there yet, $1million/2million
NL?  I need to keep my ID hidden, because I am such a big shot, so UB is the
best solution.  Agree?

You really do get here here on RGP sometimes.

Nick I get the feeling that you're not a very trusting person.  You can believe
me or not.  Tell you what...I'm playing the 10/20 NL on stars right now.  This
should narrow your field of choices down.

And yes, I would prefer that people on here do not find out who I am on Stars.
I'm not pretending to be a big shot just because I play 10/20 NL.  It's how I
make a living plain and simple.  I still get paid regardless if you believe me
or not.  If I was to step down levels for my daily play and I probably couldn't
make as much unless I played 2 or 3 times longer.

Nobody's pretending here...no need to.   Check one of my first posts and you'll
see a real bad beat story at the 10/20 NL tables.

I'm sure that if you can afford to play 5/10 NL then you can step it up to 10/20
NL.  Unless you've only got one buy in for 5/10 then maybe not.  I also like to
play the 25/50 NL on FTP... does that make me a bigshot?  nope .....just a
bigroll

sorry if you don't like to hear the truth but what can I do about that.....well
later Nick, I'm tired of arguing with you - you're not worth it as I stated
earlier.

Think you may be playing too many hands on the first levels of these things?
It just seems you tend to post a lot of "bad beats" from really early on.

I'm surprised an experienced player such as yourself needs this evidence.
Like you said in another post in this thread, it happens to all of us
pretty much every tournament. In most cases, more than once per
tournament.

ok thanks, that answers my questions perfectly. Seems like early on its not
worth getting involved unless you have something pretty strong.

Ok, while Im picking your brain, here's another one. Seems like there are two
schools of thought for early on when the blinds are cheap. Either play super
tight, or play every hand to hope and flop something great. Sounds like you are
the tight variety (Which I am too), but my friend is the other school. What are
the advantages to both and why do you pick the one you do?

Thanks again for such a clear answer on this last one :)
