I have only experienced a little No Limit Holdem tournament style play.
What kinda bankroll do you need to comfortably sit down at say 1/3, 3/6,
10/20, and 30/60 games respectively? Thanks guys.

I assume you are talking limit poker? If so, 25x is a good start for
a single session. $75 at 1/3, $500 at 10/20 etc. As a bankroll,
multiply that by 10 again. ie, $5000 for 10/20. If you're quite good
you could get away with less, if you're not, you'll need a lot more.

i would start with whatever you are comfortable with as an initial
buyin and have a duplicate amount to back it up, but that's it.

I played 3/6 last two nights and bought in for a hundred both
nights with a hundred or so cash in my pocket. That's usually
comfortable. First night was a slow starter, but I never got down
to the second hundred either night. I've never played 30/60 but I
would assume it would depend on the players and their money
situations.

You need 300 times the big bet, 10/20 $6000; 1/3, $ 900 , that will allow you a
large enough bank rool to give yourself a fair chance.

If you're not any good I don't really think it matters how much you have :)

For one session? No way. Now, as a total bankroll, which is what I
think you're saying here? Yes way.

The only answer to this is buyin to one game for whatever you are
comfortable with and have 3-4 times that for your bankroll. If you
have not played higher stakes poker you had best get comfortable
playing 3/6 or 4/8 first. I have played 10/20 for the better part of
a decade and I am thousands of dollars ahead. In spite of the fact
that I have the money in winnings to do so several times over the
buyin required for 30/60 makes me ill. I don't even think I could
play 30/60 for a while if I won the lottery. I am just not
comfortable betting that much yet even though I don't think twice
about reraising a $20 bet on the turn or river.

I personally would avoid playing anything lower than 3/6 and look to
move up as soon as you can. The rake at that level is a killer and
you will get beat by suck out hands (runner-runner flush, inside
straight draws) much more often because the price to call one more bet
is so much lower. I am not saying it won't happen at higher levels
but it will happen much less frequently and the opponents have to pay
a lot more to be bad players at that level.
