Just signed up for neteller and deposited 25. Then I realized I needed
to deposit more money, so I tried to login to neteller, but it said my
account has been put on hold and is currently under review. Whats the
deally?

My guess is thet it means your account has been put on hold and is currently
under review.

But seriously, expect to hear from the police shortly!

Where do you live? A friend of mine who, like me, lives in Maryland,
tried to make a deposit to Neteller and they told him they are not
currently accepting EFT transactions from Maryland based banks.

Below is a copy of the message they sent him. Fortunately I have been
winning lately so I have not had to make a deposit, but I haven't
figured out what I'm going to do next time I do. Or for that matter,
will I be able to withdraw money and deposit it in my bank account,
which is in the same MD-based credit union that my friend's is? I guess
I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I with drew some money last
weekend from PokerParty to Neteller, but I just turned around and
deposited it in my sports betting account so I haven't had a
Neteller<-->Bank Account transaction since this Neteller problem
started, sometime in the past two weeks.

a.. It is true that we have chosen to no longer take deposits from
residents
of Maryland.
a.. This has nothing to do with gaming legislation.
a.. The State of MD asked us to register to transfer money from their
residents (this means take deposits from them) to NETeller. As a
Canadian
money transmitter, there is no need for us to register in Maryland or
any
other State However, while we are in dispute we have chosen not to
accept
deposits form that state.
a.. This is a decision we have taken for now; we will continue to
monitor
the situation and may elect to turn MD back on at some point in the
future.
We are NOT, dealing with similar issues with any other States and do
not
anticipate any such actions.

Standard procedure for first deposit apparently. They want to get you to
call them. Kind of a stupid dirty trick if you ask me. Why do they have to
be sneaky. They could just say you have to call 'em up to open an account.

If you used their quicker option, you will have to contact their
security department. When you log in, a message will pop up asking you
to call a certain number and what option (#2) to use. They will ask
you a couple of questions and then call you on the number that you
provided to them when registering. They do this to establish your
identity, nothing more. It takes about 10 minutes and then you are
good to go. I actually appreciated the security as I deposited quite a
bit more than $25.

Neteller has some of the most inane security measures imaginable. They
insist on "telephone contact with the registered phone number" even though
you can change the "registered number" at any time.

My friend tried to open an account, he entered his school phone number
instead of his home. He got locked out of the system and was told to call
security.

The Wyatt Earp of Neteller security proudly informed him on the phone that
"Yeah, I shut you down, that phone number wasn't right." So this genius
apparently thought some identity thief had stolen my friends address,
license registration number, and social security number, but somehow
couldn't get the phone number right.

To open an account he was informed he would have to go to his local city
hall, get a notarized statement proving he was the guy with that ss#, scan
a copy of his license and a bill/check proving his address and mail it,
yes mail it not fax it, to neteller.

Needless to say Neteller lost a customer.

Your best hope is to get on the phone and raise hell, and you are much
better off sticking with the customer service department if you can avoid
going through "security". Good luck.

Ok, I'm a French poker player, I recently open an account on neteller and
got the same 'on hold' than you. The phone number I provided wasn't
correct and I did'nt want to call the US !! (not cheap).
But after my deposit I also received a mail from neteller admin,
explaining my account was on hold and thay were trying to contact me.
I replied to this message and give them may cell phone number. 10 minutes
letter I got the phone call, unfortunately my cell phone wasn't working,
could'nt reply.. I quickly send back a mail with my work phone number, 2
minutes later a netteller employee called on my work number and I give him
the information he needed, my account was no more on hold.
So I really appreciated the security, even if this seems a bit
complicated, I must admit that neteller employees are doing there best for
this procedure to be as easy as possible.

Worst case scenario, you can always have them send you a check.

This strikes you as beyond the bounds of all possibilities?

This information is all printed on your driver's license. Your phone
number isn't.

They're in Canada, not the US.
