View Full Version : Russ, will this gimmick work?

Dear Russ,
I was thinking about starting a new website. For promotional reasons, I
figured I might stir some things up on RGP. I would offer to play in
30-50-100 tournaments for posters who contacted me. First, I thought I
would use regular long term posters thus lending credibility. But after
thinking this over I thought it might be better to manufacture some of my
own winners, and post a few myself. This would cut out the middle man,
saves time. After all, time is money.
For those I actually did play for, I could just set up a few stooges in
the tourney to dump off chips to me/poster. This would greatly increse my
chances of winning, and I would look good. I realize these are only low
limit tournaments, but it might impress some people. Either way, it would
stir up some interest, and would be publicity one way or another.
I haven't really thought this through completely yet, do you think any of
this might work?
Any advice?
A.R.

Aren't there sites already doing this? Looks like you may have missed
the boat on this idea.

Anything will work for a short time, at times. The truth will always be hard to
deny. It was stated I was a busted out drug addict who slept in a car when I
first posted on RGP. Did that work? How many believed it at first? Now I am
being accused of hiring shill after shill to do my bidding. I wonder where the
truth lies?

I have the information that people seek to advance their poker game. Always
look for a motive. So far I have spent 2 and one half years posting and
spending money. Seems like someone wasn't telling the truth from the start. I
wonder if it was me or the industry?
Why would anyone waste so much time on me? I wouldn't, nah, I like to GET IN
YOUR FACE. :)

No it won't. Truth has nothing to do with most things. People don't buy
products based on truthful advertising, president's don't initiate wars
while telling the public the truth. Even in court, defendants don't have
to testify. They don't have to tell the "truth" at all.

That sounds better than being a furniture salesman like the other Russ. :)

It would be a pretty good way to ensure a win. I don't recall you saying
that the tournies would be straight up. A small price in dollars to pay to
"prove the truth" to the naysayers.
But I really don't care. Winning low limit tournies doesn't mean much at
all. 30 bucks is the blinds in a 20-40 game.

From what I've seen you do have some good ideas.

Promo of website. Is that a motive? Boosting esteem in the eys of some
peabrains. Is that a motive.
Who cares really.

You probably actually believe that statement.

Well, because are persistent, occassionally entertaining, and willing to
stir it up.
But I'm wasting my time posting. Everyone knows RGP only consists of about
ten or so actually real people, like yourself, that generate thousands of
posts. I don't really exist either.

No, I don't have an opinion. I don't form these types of opinions without
evidence.
> One of us is clueless
And since I don't exist, guess who that leaves?

Now where would a busted out drugged out illiterate individual like myself get
the money to do this?
Wasn't this the story on me when I came onto RGP? How could it have changed
when I haven't done anything, except post sweet nothings on RGP.
Hell, didn't Mike Caro even state I was staying up for 6 days in a row and
wasn't capable of complicated thought?
Funny how things change?
