OK, as a brand spankin' new fish I started playing a little .25 game on
Fridays with a new group ofpeople that I know.

Mostly omaha and hold 'em but quite a bit of shit games like 727, follow the
queen, 5 draw lo-ball etc.

First and second nights i lost my $20 buy-in andand extra $20 each.

Easy enough I figure a book is cheaperthan continuing to lose so I bought
"poker for dummies" since I know nothing about poker. Read the book and
figured out what are good and bad poker hands. Also got to know the players
a bit better and now 4 months later I win consistently. If I'm drinking I
might lose a little but I haven't lost more than $15 since that second week.

To night I have the 2 biggest fish of the group rightafter me. the host and
best player is right in front of me. One of the guys has a hard on for 727
tonight so we played nearly every time it's his deal. I hate the game so
unless I'm pretty close I'll fold out quickly. I took 2 low pots with 6.5
and 7 from fish #2 and fold a high pot to him when I got 28.5. (I was too
far in by the time I got the bad card so the pot odds were nothing) Gets
around to mr. 727 again and I roll a 6. There are no limits to the number
of passes you can take in this game so I sit and watch all the high guys
pulling cards. There are 14 cards out of the deck that would hurt my hand
and only 3 gone that would have helped or left it unchanged. Relatively
small pot so I take a card. Duece, so my hand is no better and no worse (we
split high/low differences) Fish #2 keeps pushing and pushing the bet with
a 6 showing. I figure I might be in trouble but 8's pretty good so I call
him and he shows a 10! He knows I hate the game and sw me fold with 2.5
over. Now he starts steaming.

another guy calls Jacks/Trips and on the Ace hand I get dealt a straight 8 -
Q. I bet it out, raise when I get a chance and take no cards. Everybody at
the table knows I've got a pat hand. This same guy calls me and then starts
yelling when I show the straight.

He starts yelling that I'm a cheap bastard and if I'm ever down $40 I quit
etc. etc. I've never left a game early, even when I'm losing. Jeeze it's
only $20 buy in.

I went home up $80 and he left down $100.

The funniest part of all is that he kept saying that it's just beginners
luck because he knows I just started playing and he's been playing all his
life etc.

Buy, just for a little humility I went to my first tournament last week. $40
hold 'em/Omaha combination at Artichoke Joe's in San Bruno, CA. Got
skinned. Gotta remember that these guys actuallyknow howto play poker. I
got AKs in the second round and boated. Shakin' like I had the DTs puttin'
my chips out. Got called all around, I think theymisread me the first
time. Even the dealermentioned the shaking. LOL. I gotta get the
adrenaline under control.
