Hi all,
I'm reading Sklansky's revised version of Hold 'Em Poker. Should I
memorize the starting hands now or after I've read the book?

Never. Abdul's preflop strategy report at www.posev.com gives you a superior
guide, and if you play online you never have to memorize anything. Just
print it out.
Some will jump in to say that you shouldn't memorize at all, because that
encourages rote play, while poker should be situational, etc. etc. But I can
tell you from experience that rote play of Abdul's preflop requirements will
take you very far as a beginner.
Really in general you would do much better with Abdul's 3 essays than the
entire 2+2 collected writings on hold 'em. I'm not saying there's not value
in the latter, but if you had to pick one I'd advise you without hesitation
to pick Abdul, doubly so if you're a beginner.
Finally, if you heed nothing else in this message, ignore the HFAP section
on loose games. It may have value if you're sophisticated enough to apply it
correctly (then again maybe not), but if you are a beginner you will
probably apply HFAP's pot manipulation concept in all kinds of atrocious
ways - like the immortal 2+2 post which advised not reraising AA in a 7-way
pot because "that gives your opponents correct odds to chase". Snort.
(Or the recent RGP post which advocated not raising with KK in a similar
situation so you can wait and see if the flop "hits you hard".)

Thanks for the information on Abdul. Any other postings on the net (or at
this website) that are worth mentioning?
