The point about poker having an information source monopoly will change
with the increase in popularity of poker and various media coverage.

I think the monopoly part means that people interested in poker are
provided that information by the player writers, newsgroups, casinos and
the poker industry publications and very little from the usual general
media sources. (I think this is a good source and wouldn't have used
the "suggestive" word monopoly however)

Note the Sports Illustrated article referred to by Paul Phillps in the
"WPT to ban deals" thread.

A year ago, would a general interest sports publication like Sports
Illustrated have cared. They're looking to cash in on the poker ratings.

I think Russ makes a good point in this sense, the bigger poker gets,
the more it will become main stream media controlled, like other sports.

That is, the media creates the star players, the star experts and
therefore the information flow to the public, competes with, shifts away
from, the poker industry/players to a show biz/broadcast source.
