cheers rgp,
I spent 3 days on the Vegas strip, from sunday morning to
Wednesday morning.
I got a room at the Frontier (mid strip) at 11:20 AM with
no reservation and was immediately given keys. This allowed
me to rest up from the brutal 4 hour drive - brutal to me
since I don't like driving among all the road construction in
the high desert.
I primarily play Blackjack, but I spent 3 hours on Tuesday
afternoon playing 3-6 holdem at the Mirage Poker room. Most of
the dealers had at least 10 years of experience, some admitting
to dealing in SoCal rooms in the 1980's.
This room runs so smooth that I kept kicking myself. There was
no dealer abuse, card throwing, or other ugly behavior. The staff
all get along well with each other and the players, and the PA
system never bothered my ears. There was one call to the Floorman to
make a decision and no player disputed the result.
Some of the stud games I saw were using shuffle machines, but all
holdem game decks are traditionally shuffled.
Games going:
1-5 stud
3-6 holdem
6-12 holdem
5-10 stud
20-40 holdem
Continuous NL satellites for an evening tourney.
Can anyone comment on when the Mirage changed their lower limit
blackjack conditions? I had read reports, only a few months
old, that they still had 6-deck shoes, S17, DOA, RSA, blackjack. When
I went there Sunday, they had $10 minimum with 5-deck continuous
shuffle machines with H17!! WTF happened to them?
The BJ players at the Mirage were some of the worst on the strip, as
you might expect given the rule conditions. I only gave them action for
1 hour -- I lost.
Caesars had traditional BJ 8 deck shoes at the $10 level. I did well
in BJ at the Imperial Palace (full of good local players and tourists who
knew what they were doing).
