Going to try my hand at 5/10 HE and wanted to know how much different
the players are in terms of skill and looseness versus 2/4 or 3/6.

on line or BM? BM little difference between 2-4 and 3-6 much improvement to 5-10. This is a guide and
games can vary greatly depending on who is in the game --they can run from tight passive to really loose
and wild. Just one player can change the type of game at these levels

Your question is just too broad. It's impossible to sum up all 5/10 games
knowing nothing else other than the limit. 5/10 games can run the gamut
skillwise. Some sites have very soft 5/10 games, others don't.

I was primarily talking about sitting in a casino and not online, but am
curious about both. Once aspect would be the types of cards people go
in with. As we all know, 2/4 and 3/6 people will go in with anything.
Is 5/10 expensive enough to make "most" people fold their 59o? Is it
safe to assume that the people playing 5/10 probably have some
experince and know the game fairly well as opposed to someone who has
been watching the Travel Channel and decided to try their hand at HE.

"It depends."

At Borgata, the 6/12 and 10/20 games are often looser than the 3/6.

At the Trop, the "pink" game (7.50/15) is looser than the 2/4.

Generally, you will see slightly better (or at least more experienced)
players in a 5/10 game than in 2/4 or 3/6. Still, expect somewhere
around 50% of the players to see the flop.

10/20 IMHO, in general, is the first "major step" where you will see a
jump in skill level. Again, it all "depends." As noted in the Borgata
example, I can't distinguish between 6/12 and 10/20. They both seem to
play pretty much the same to me.

If the "cost" of a 5/10 game is prohibitive to you, then you probably
shouldn't be playing it.

Generalization are just that. It really depends more on the type of
table you are at the the limit being played. Night and weekend games
tend to be looser than Daytime/weekday games. I've seen 2/4 "rock
gardens" and 30/60 no fold'em games.

At 2/4, don't try to get too fancy. Just play your premium hands hard
and you should do fine. Bluffs and trick plays rarely (if ever) work at
low levels. Most of the table won't notice that you are only X% of your
hands. At 5/10, players will pay attention more to how you play, but
bluffing should still be done VERY sparingly, as you usually will get
called.

If you aren't happy being at a particular table, just request a table
change. Table selection, more than anything else, is the key factor to
long-term success (assuming sound play).

When you get to the casino, put yourself down for every limit you feel
comfortable playing, then WATCH THE GAMES. Decide which would be your
ideal table to be sitting at, then play at that limit, trying for that
game.

if you are in the LA area then my limited experience there says 5-10 has better players and the 2-4 and
3-6 games only have different betting limits

One other note that has not been mentioned....

The jump from 3/6 to 5/10 is not always the other players, but you.
If the small amount of money difference between the 2 games is enough
to worry you, then you may not be ready.

For instance, if you are a winning player at 3/6, and get scared or
worried at 5/10, you will not play your A game. It's not possible to
play good at any level if you are not comfotable with the limits.

For 2 years I could not make the very jump you are talking about,
(actually 3/6 to 6/12). Everytime I played 3/6, I played great,
didn't always win, but played great. Everytime I played 6/12, I
played scared, and everytime I lost. I finally came through with my
daily job that tripled my income, and all of a sudden the buy in to a
6/12 meant less to me. Instantly I started playing 6/12 the same I
played 3/6, and did just as well, regardless of the other players
play. There was some diffences, but I adapted in my first session
that I was comfortable in.

I really think the difference between winning one limit to another
depends more on your comfort level than your opponents skill.
Although the skill does get better at each progressed level. And
lastly, if you are not a winning 2/4 or 3/6 player, then should not
even consider the move........except to my table.....I could use the
money.

I hope this helped more than confused.
