3. "Mono" - or monkey for those of you who don't speak Spanish...Sometimes
mono is a good card and sometimes "mono" is a bad card, all I know is
people love to yell it out as loud as they can

2. "Yoker"- need I say more, pretty much only applies to Mexican poker
and no bust blackjack

1. "Aiyah"- This one is so stuck in my head that I use it even outside
the casino on a regular basis. Driving with no gas, I yell out "Aiyah!"
to myself where an innocent standerby could honestly think I'm crazy. Or,
i'm still at work on Friday definitely deserves an "Aiyah!"

Any others I'm forgettin?

If you play with HK players in any venue, you'll pick up aiyah!

I still remember the utterly shocked look on the face of my Cantonese
sister-in-law the first time I said it in front of her.

Cantonese?!?

"F---ing dealers" was heard far too often for my taste.

I don't actually know -- my sister-in-law was just shocked to hear any
Chinese expression out of her gwailo inlaws.

Roughly, the same as Oy Vey in Yiddish? It's also the pronunciation of the
first two vowels in Korean.

AYYYYYYAHHHH is heard in virtually every card club in the NY area, and everyone
uses it, not just Chinese folks.

I'm interested in favorite expressions, too. Not at clubs, but personal, and
not always well known, sometimes very personal indeed. Here are a few of mine.

1. "I've been very lucky, that never happened to me". Said when someone
complains of any kind of beat, bad or otherwise. I wouldn't say this to just
anyone.

2. "I'll make a mental bet. When you make a mental bet, all you can lose is
your mind." This is not original.

3. "Now I am Bishop of Beauvais (or Prelate of Padua, Archimandrite of Austria,
etc). I don't think I invented this. It was in any case said at a game filled
with literary scholars and similar eggheads, and might be related to a line
from DUTCHESS OF MALFI, when the main character, after being tortured and
tormented by the villains, says something like "I am Dutchess of Malfi yet..."
Bishop of Beauvais expression was first used by player who had just won, and
not necessarily a big pot, sometimes just squeaked in. Whoever began it, the
expression(s) caught on in a few other games where people from the first game
also played. It then began to be used to denote the player first to act, as in
"You're the Bishop".

4. "Power has driven him mad..." which comes inter alia from BANANAS by Woody
Allen. I've generally used it when a maniac makes a huge bet, although anyone
making some kind of unusual bet, usually a big one, and not necessarily a wrong
one, far from it, can rate this.

Other expressions, not mine:

1. "Have a hunch, bet a bunch..."
2. "You have to speculate to accumulate".
3. "One for fun..." Early first chip bet.
4. "I'm esscared.." looking at a scary board.
5. "Muck you, Farley".
6. "F.....k you" or "you f....k" -- sometimes in jest, sometimes not.

Best to all. HR Greenberg MD ENDIT

Being totally ignored when you ask to have the English Only rule enforced.
In fact, there were times when I thought the only English speaking people at
the table were me and the cocktail waitress.

My Cantonese sister-in-law is my brother's wife.

My girlfriend is Lebanese.

Different people and groups of people entirely.

"Doh Ma!" Vietnemese. People have translated it for me as both "Fuck!"
and "Mother Fucker!"

For a near flush, "Flush the toilet." For a near straight on Pai Gow
"straight to the bank."

Sometimes if the board comes something like, 4 K K, I'll say "I should
have played my kings," which usually gets a laugh.

I have never played in a game in which literary references would go
very far.
