From the RGP FAQ:
"Card Player is the best established periodical for poker
players...Because it is financed largely by casino industry
advertisements, it does not print unfavorable casino news and is not a
good place to find a balanced review of a cardroom."
It's true, CP presents the poker world as ideal. But we shouldn't single
them out. All advertising-media portrays the world in a ridiculously
idealized fashion. Consider what commercials would be like if they tried
to film them using real people:
Palmolive
---------
(Scene: Marge is giving a customer a manicure)
Customer: Oh, these dishpan hands! What the hell do they put in dish
detergent anyway, battery acid? My hands look like they belong on the
Goddamned Cryptkeeper.
Marge: Try Palmolive, you're soaking in it!
Customer: Are you fucking insane? (She throws the Palmolive in Marge’s
face).
Jello Pudding
-------------
(Scene: A 5 year old African-American boy is seated at a table, clearly
sad about something. Bill Cosby sits down with the child)
Boy: (Sniffle)
Coz: Awwwwww, now don't be sad! Hey, I have an idea! What if we GET
some Jello brand pudding, you see, and then we MAKE the pudding, and then
we EAT the pudding?
Boy: Nigger, please.
Coors
-----
(Scene: 3 seriously fat guys are sitting around drinking Coors and
watching football. Their t-shirts are covered with potato chip crumbs.
They've got hot wing sauce on their faces. A song starts. They pump
their fists to the music, but never get off the couch.)
I...love...football in-ju-ries,
Girls with big boo-bies,
Planting my ass on the couch,
And getting soused,
I love betting the rent mon-ey,
Cursing at the TV,
Spittle flyin' out my mouth
'Cause I'm soused
And I love you too! Here's to football!
Fat guy 1: Talk about overcompensation. Coors is for chicks.
Fat guy 2: Yeah, I feel like a big fat homo.
Fat guy 3: Let's get some Budweiser.
Maybe someone should add that to the FAQ?
