I assume you mean online games. The appeal is faster action. The fewer
players, the more hands per hour, plus the more hands those players can--
and must!--play. Where you might fold small pairs in a 10-handed game
in early position, you might find it a better strategy instead to play
those hands aggressively in the 5-handed game.
Also, more opportunities to be in short-handed situations, so it gives
players a chance to polish their short-handed strategies. In the
5-handed game, you'll have a lot more chances to play in 2- and 3-way
pots.
