Internet Texas Hold'em

October 6, 2003

Reviewer: A reader from LookyLou, OH United States

This book, together with Lee Jones "Winning Low Limit Hold'em", covers everything you need to know about playing Hold'em on the Internet. However, I would suggest reading "Winning Low Limt Hold'em" first. These two books together will have you winning 1 or more Big Bets per hour in no time.

Hold'Em Poker for Advanced Players

October 4, 2003

Reviewer: A reader from Vidalia, GA United States

This is the fundamental text of Hold'em for serious students of the most complex form of poker. Hold'Em Poker for Advanced Players is as deceptively simple as the game itself. While the book is an "easy read", the simple and concise writing style of the authors belies the multitude of information and savvy advice contained within every page. Each reading stimulates one to a thought provoking analysis of hands played, whether won or lost, and how those hands could have been played more profitably. The authors carefully define poker theory and tatics in a context that naturally applies to all poker games, and then show how to apply these concepts into a coherent winning stratagem for Hold'em. A beginner may initially be better served by a different text, but every player with aspirations of winning should certainly study this book. I wholeheartedly recommend you invest in this classic.

Ken Warren Teaches Texas Hold'em

October 11, 2003

Reviewer: wercat2 from MD United States

If you haven't read any books on Poker or attended any courses and are interested in learning about Texas Hold'em, then this is a good book to start with. I really liked how he included the tables of odds to drive home why you should play certain hands and not others. In addition I had never thought of pot odds and why you should play some hands only when the pot odds dictated. Although it is all common sense, if you've never thought about it, it is eye opening. Even his break down on what you hope to accomplish by betting is a good read. So if you're just getting into Texas Hold'em and aren't a poker wiz, then you'll find lots of well organized, and thought out material to improve your game and change your thinking.

The Complete Book of Hold 'Em Poker

January 14, 2003

Reviewer: samcroy from West Lafayette, OH United States

I purchased this book when it was published and have read it several times. I have many other books in my poker library but this one has done the most to turn my game around. Carson gives another side of how to look at Holdem' poker. He doesn't give hard and fast rules to follow, instead he trys to get you to think. There is so much here to think about, I still go back to individual chapters and re-read them. When I run into trouble, or have the time to study poker, instead of play it that is. This book will pay for itself many times over.

Winner's Guide To Texas Hold'em Poker

October 2, 2003

Reviewer: A reader from St. Paul, MN 55104

There is nothing wrong with this book. Ken Warren does a good job explaining the game of hold em and takes you through how to bet from pre-flop to the river. However, I would reccommend Lee Jones book Winning Low Limit Hold 'Em. Lee Jones does a much better job explaining the strategies, and there are even quizzes after each section to make sure you understand the concepts. Buy that book instead.

The Intelligent Guide to Texas Hold'em Poker

August 26, 2003

Reviewer: A reader from St. Louis, MO United States

This is a very useful book to have around as a reference. The tables and charts are handy, especially if you play online. If you travel, which I do a lot, having contact information for cardrooms all over the country is helpful. I like Braid's approach to poker strategy. He provides a consistent framework for understanding any kind of poker game. His comments on poker playing computer programs are thought provoking.
